Danbury, Conn. -Freshman Leroy Mayers (Bronx, N.Y.) scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed eight rebounds to lead the Western Connecticut State University Colonial men's basketball team to a 77-67 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams this evening at Feldman Arena.  Trinity falls to 2-4 and the Colonials improve to 4-2.

In the first half, Western Connecticut scored the game's first four points, but Trinity battled back to take a 20-15 lead at the 12:01 mark.  The momentum shifted back to the Colonials, who went into the locker room at intermission with a 35-30 lead.  Western Connecticut never trailed in the second half and led by as much as 13 points before controlling the ball and hitting their free-throws down the stretch.

For the game, the Colonials shot 47 percent from the field, while holding Trinity to 35 percent.  Both teams shot 70 percent from the free-throw line.  The Colonials had a slight advantage on the boards grabbing 45 rebounds to 41 for Trinity. Leading a balanced Trinity attack was Luke MacDougall (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) with 13 points, followed by Salah Abdo (Chelsea, Mass.), Paul Rowe (Brooklyn, N.Y.), and Andrew Yanulis (Medford, Mass.) who each scored 10 points.  Also scoring in double figures for WestConn were senior Dashon Jennings (Bridgeport, Conn.) with 18 points and freshman Daquon Brooks (Bristol, Conn.) who scored 14.  Senior Marcus Mann (Windsor, Conn.) pulled down eight rebounds and blocked two shots, while junior Tyshawn Gillespie (Hartford, Conn.) handed out a game-high nine assists.
