Hartford, Conn. - Sophomore OH Katherine Kanoff (Pacific
Palisades, Calif.) had 19 kills to lead the visiting
Amherst College Lord Jeffs to a 3-2 victory over the Trinity
College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) volleyball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.
Amherst, ranked No. 10 in New England improves to 17-4 overall and
6-2 in the NESCAC, while the Bantams, ranked No. 15 in the region,
falls to 10-8 overall and 4-4 in the league with their second loss
in a row.
Trinity rolled to a 2-0 lead, scoring five of the final eight
points for a 25-23 win in the first set, and jumping to a 14-3 lead
in the second set en route to a 25-18 triumph. Amherst
rallied and led almost start-to-finish in the third set, finishing
with a 25-20 win, but the teams played even during an exciting
fourth set. The score was tied seven times from 19-19 to
25-25, before a kill by Kanoff and a block by junior MH
Jackie Berkley (Fullerton, Calif.) gave Amherst a
27-25 win and tied the match at 2-2. In the fifth set,
Trinity raced to a 7-2 lead, as sophomore MH Kelly O'Brien
(Pelham, N.Y.) made three kills during the run, but
Amherst battled and outscored Trinity, 13-4, the rest of the way to
secure the 15-11 win in the set and a 3-2 triumph in the match.
Trinity sophomore OH Sarah Blagden (Charleston,
S.C.) amassed team-highs of 16 kills, against just three
errors, 27 digs, and a pair of blocks, while freshman OH
Danielle Isaman (West Hartford, Conn.) added 14
kills, 22 digs, and four blocks, and junior co-captain RS
Kristen Anderson (West Haven, Conn.) collected 12
kills, 23 assists, 13 digs, and five blocks. Sophomore S
Jen Low (San Francisco, Calif.) had 27 assists, 15
digs, and two aces, and O'Brien and classmate Courtney
Chaloff (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) each made six blocks for
