New London, Conn. -- Sophomore Nicole Johnson had 15 kills while
freshman Keriann Mason added 14 kills and two blocks as the United
States Coast Guard Academy Bears, ranked No. 8 in New England, ran
its win streak to ten with a 3-1 win (21-25, 25-13, 25-18, 25-17)
win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams volleyball action
this evening. Trinity falls to 11-9 and the Bears improve to
24-3.
Trinity used a late charge in set one as the Bantams scored six
of the final seven points turning a 20-19 deficit into a 25-21
win. Coast Guard jumped out to a 12-4 lead in the second set
and cruised to a 25-13 win. In the third set, Coast Guard
used a 6-1 spurt turning a 11-9 advantage into a 17-10 lead. The
Bears would push the lead to nine at 21-12 before winning
25-18. The Bears closed out the match by taking an 11-3 lead
in the fourth set before winning 25-17.
Freshman Rachel Cuthrell had nine kills, classmate Lauren Bloch
added seven kills while junior Jessica Anderson led the way with 25
digs. Freshman setter Karen Matic led the Bears with 35 assists and
three blocks. Freshman Danielle Isaman (West
Hartford, Conn.) led the Bantams with 15 kills to go
with eight digs while sophomore Sarah Blagden (Charleston,
S.C.) had 11 kills and eight digs. Junior
Kristen Anderson (West Haven, Conn.) had a
balanced game with nine kills and 12 digs while freshman
Alexandra Pell (San Diego, Calif.) led
Trinity with 15 digs.
