Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore guard DaQuan Brooks (Bristol, Conn.) totaled a game-high 22 points, six rebounds, four assists, and four steals to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Colonials to an 88-69 win over the Trinity College Bantams in men's basketball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity falls to 2-3 while the Colonials improve to 6-1 with their fifth consecutive victory.

Western Connecticut jumped out to a 17-3 lead over the first six minutes, and maintained a comfortable advantage throughout the first half. The Colonials held Trinity to seven field goals in 25 attempts in the first half and held a 26-14 edge on the boards. Brooks scored 11 points in each half. Trinity pulled within five points, 43-38, on a baseline jumper by sophomore forward Jon Pike (Exeter, N.H.), and trailed, 53-47, after a drive and lay-up by sophomore guard Salah Abdo (Chelsea, Mass.). Western Connecticut answered each time, as sophomore center Leroy Mayers (Bronx, N.Y.) scored 12 of his 16 points in the second stanza, and Brooks scored seven unanswered points, including a pair of three-pointers, from the right wing to push the Colonial lead back up to double digits.

Mayers made seven out of 10 shots from the field and grabbed six boards, while sophomore forward Mark Redding (Waterbury, Conn.) added 10 points, five rebounds, and three assists, and junior forward Will Jarrett (Hartford, Conn.) pulled down a game-high nine boards. The Colonials shot 80 percent from the foul line (24-30) and 50 percent from the field (30-60).

Trinity junior forward Timothy Dunn (Holyoke, Mass.) scored a team-high 14 points off the bench, while Abdo had 13 points, four rebounds, and a game-high nine assists, and Pike finished with 10 points. Trinity shot 53.3 percent from the field in the second half (16-30), but missed 11 of its 28 tries from the charity stripe, and was outrebounded, 42-25.
