Middlebury, Vt. - The Middlebury College Panthers posted a 2-1
win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) women's ice hockey action this
evening at Kenyon Arena. Trinity, ranked No. 4 in the
nation, falls to 14-2-2 overall and 7-2-2) in the NESCAC and had
its winning streak stopped at 11 games in a row. The Panthers,
ranked No. 7 nationally, improve to 11-4-1 overall and 8-2-1 i
the league.
Middlebury opened the scoring just 1:22 into the game when
Heather McCormack scored her second goal of the season on a
rebound. Trinity tied the game 3:02 into the second period, when
Celia Colman's shot hit the glove of Middlebury netminder Lani
Wright before finding the back of the net. The Panthers scored the
eventual game-winner on the power play at the 6:60 mark of the
second period. Heather Marrison converted a feed from Nora Bergman
from the high slot, as Trinity goaltender Isabel Iwachiw got a
piece of the shot, but not enough. either team found the back
of the net in the third period, leaving the Panthers with the 2-1
win. Wright ended the night with 15 saves, and Iwachiw made
27, as the Panthers held a 29-16 shots advantage.
