Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore
Lauren Bloch (Centennial, Colo.) had a game-high
18 kills Keriann Mason (Highland, Calif.) added 33
digs and a pair of aces to lead the visiting United States Coast
Guard Academy Bears to a 3-2 win over the Trinity College Bantams
in volleyball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.
Trinity, ranked No. 10 in New England, falls to 11-7, while the
Bears, ranked No. 5 in New England, improve to 23-4 with their 12th
consecutive victory. Trinity pinked put Oosting Gymnasium for
the match as part of the SideOut Foundation's Dig Pink breast
cancer awareness program and raised more than 1,400 dollars toward
the cause.
Coast Guard took a 2-0 lead in the match,
using a 9-3 run to close out the first set, 25-19, and controlling
the next frame from beginning to end with a 25-14 triumph.
Trinity turned the tables in the third set, jumping out to an 11-4
lead and holding off the Bears' comeback by scoring 10 of the
set's final 12 points for a 25-15 win. The fourth set
was a hard-fought with Trinity taking four of the last five points
for a 25-22 victory, but the Bears went ahead, 10-2, to open the
fifth set en route to a 15-10 clinching win.
Sophomore OH Danielle Isaman (West
Hartford, Conn.) paced a well-balanced Trinity offense
with 17 kills and added five digs and two solo blocks, while senior
tri-captain RS Kristen Anderson (West Haven,
Conn.) had 15 kills, nine digs, and a game-high three
aces, and freshman Hannah Brickley (Melrose,
Mass.) contributed 13 kills. Junior S Jen
Low (San Francisco, Calif.) notched a game-high 51 assists
and 12 digs, while junior tri-captain Sarah Blagden
(Charleston, S.C.) and junior Alexandra Pell (San
Diego, Calif.) had 26 and 15 digs, respectively, and were
a perfect 52-for-52 between them receiving.
