Brunswick, Maine - The Bowdoin College field hockey team
remained the only unbeaten team in Division III with a 2-0 win
over visiting Trinity on Saturday afternoon. The Polar Bears
(13-0, 8-0 NESCAC) are ranked fifth in the latest national
poll while Trinity (8-5, 5-3 NESCAC) entered the game ranked
20th.
After holding a 14-2 edge in shots in the opening half, Bowdoin
was finally able to find the back of the net shortly before
halftime. Off a penalty corner, an Ella Curren strike from the
top of the circle was re-directed by Cathleen Smith into the
cage at 29:47. Bowdoin carried the momentum into the second
half, as Katie Herter knocked home a loose ball in front for
her team-leading 15th goal and a 2-0 Bowdoin lead.
That proved to be all that Bowdoin goaltender Emily Neilson needed,
as she needed to make just one save in her fourth shutout of
the season. Junior GK Gina Dinallo (West Hartford, Conn.)
stood tall in net for Trinity, making 12 saves. Bowdoin held a
32-6 edge in shots and 12-4 lead in penalty corners for the
game.
