Trinity Volleyball Closes Regular Season with Fifth Straight Win, Prepares for Playoffs

Hartford, Conn. – Senior tri-captain Kristen Anderson (West Haven, Conn.) led the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-1 win over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) volleyball action today at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity finishes the regular season with a record of 16-7 overall and 5-5 in the league, while Bates drops to 7-20 overall and 2-8 in the conference.  In other NESCAC action at Oosting Gymnasium today, the Wesleyan University Cardinals needed five games to down the Colby College Mules to ensure a spot in the league championship tournament next weekend.  Wesleyan improves to 10-12 overall and 3-7 in the league, while Colby falls to 7-17 overall and 0-10 in the league.  The Connecticut College Camels topped Colby 3-0, after having defeated Bates 3-0 to start the day.  The Camels end their regular season with a 19-6 record and a league mark of 7-3.
           
Anderson finished the day with 12 kills, 17 digs and four aces, while sophomore teammate Danielle Isaman (West Hartford, Conn.) collected 14 kills and first-year Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) had nine kills, 24 assists, and four service aces for the Bantams. Bates first-year Jennifer Youngpeter (Mobile, Ala.) ended the day with 47 assists and 16 digs to lead the Bobcats in two matches.
           
Connecticut College shut out both of its opponents today, led by junior Amy Newman (Los Angeles, Calif.), who finished the day with 31 kills. Wesleyan fended off its opponent in five sets for the second straight day, led by junior Casey Reed (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) who had 13 kills and sophomore Laura Yim (San Mateo, Calif.), who compiled 31 assists and three aces.  First-year Lily Kramlich-Taylor (Sacramento, Calif.) led Colby with 18 kills in two games, while classmate Kate Pleasants (Virginia Beach, Va.) collected 46 assists today.
           
Trinity and Wesleyan both secured spots in the NESCAC Championship Tournament with two wins apiece this weekend.  Connecticut College earned the No. 4 seed with a pair of wins and will face No. 5 Tufts on Fri., Nov. 5 at 8 p.m. in the opening round.  The Bantams will face No. 2 Middlebury on Fri., Nov. 5 at 5 p.m., and Wesleyan takes on top-seeded Amherst at the same time and date.  All tournament games will be played at Amherst College.
