Hartford, Conn. – Freshman Frances Cameron (Mill
Valley, Calif.) won the deciding match, 6-3, 6-2,
over Nicole Russell at No. 6 singles to lead the Trinity College
Bantams to a thrilling, 5-4 win over the visiting Bates College
Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC)
women's tennis action this afternoon. Trinity improves
to 6-3 overall and 2-2 in the NESCAC with its fourth consecutive
victory, while the Bobcats fall to 9-6 overall and 3-4 in the
league with their second loss in a row.
The top two doubles matches were won by 9-7 scores, as Bates
took the No. 1 match and Trinity won the No. 2 match, while junior
Arielle Leben (New York, N.Y.) and sophomore
Jillian Steckloff (Framingham, Mass.) earned an
8-5 triumph to give Trinity a 2-1 edge after doubles play.
Bantam freshman Hillary Hoyt (New York, N.Y.) won,
6-0, 3-6, 6-4, at first singles and Steckloff added a three-set win
at second singles, but Bates won at No.'s 3,4, and 5.
Erika Blauth won in singles and doubles for Bates.
