Hartford, Conn. – Junior Payson Sword (Princeton,
N.J.) tallied three goals to lead the No. 7 Trinity
College Bantams to a 5-1 win over the Colby College Mules in New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey
action on Robin Sheppard Field this afternoon. It was
the season opener for both teams, as Trinity jumps to 1-0, and the
Mules start the year with an 0-1 mark.
Colby jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute of action
after senior Olivia Lattanzi (Milton, Mass.) gave
her team a temporary advantage with a goal. Sword would
answer for Trinity in the sixth minute of action with her first
goal of the afternoon, tying the game at one apiece. In the
21st minute, sophomore Hadley Duncan (Rye,
N.Y.) notched a goal, the eventual game-winner, to give
the Bantams a 2-1 lead.
Junior Gina Dinallo (West Hartford, Conn.) made
seven saves for the Bantams, while senior Liz Fontaine
(Wilbraham, Mass.) made 11 stops in goal for the
Mules. Alanna Capasso (Weston, Mass.) added
a goal for the Bantams and Paige Duke (Dedham,
Mass.) recorded two assists.
Sword's hat trick was the first since teammate
Christy Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.) accomplished
the feat nearly a year ago on Sept. 17 in a 5-1 win over Wellesley
College. Bradley assisted two goals this afternoon,
connecting with Sword on both.
Trinity will host Wellesley on Thurs., Sept. 16 at 6 p.m. in a
game that will be webcast live on www.trincoll.tv.
