Danbury, Conn. — The Trinity College Bantam volleyball
team swept the Western Connecticut State University Colonials, 3-0
in at Feldman Arena this evening. The Bantams, 7-2, cruised to
victory with scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-20. The Colonials
dip to 11-3.
Trinity was never threatened in the first game but the Colonials
showed some life in the second game, drawing within one point, the
last time at 22-21 before squandering the final three points.
In the finale, WestConn trailed by three on three different
occasions before taking its first lead of the match, 8-7. The
Bantam's Hannah Brickley
(Melrose, Mass.) rattled off seven straight service points
to put the visitors up, 15-8.
Western Connecticut was led by Kelley Collins
(Massapequa, N.Y.) who had 16 digs from her libero
position. Sammie Hathaway (Milford, Conn.) dished
out 26 assists to lead the offense. Sophomore Paxton
Thornton (Sharon, Conn.) put away 10 kills to head the
Colonials attack. Trinity's well balanced squad, had three
players register at least 10 kills. Brickley led the team with 12
put aways while Kristen
Anderson (West Haven, Conn.) and Danielle Isaman
(West Hartford, Conn.) registered 11 and 10 kills,
respectively. Jennifer Low (San
Francisco, Calif.) patrolled the offense, handing out 39
assists for the winners. Sarah Blagden
(Charleston, S.C.) led the defense with 21 digs while
Courtney
Chaloff (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) recorded four
blocks.
