Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Hadley Duncan (Rye,
N.Y.) scored two goals to lead the Trinity College Bantams
to a 5-1 win over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action on Robin
Sheppard Field today. Trinity, ranked No. 11 in Div. III,
improves to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the league, while Bates drops to
1-4 overall and 0-4 in the league.
Junior Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.) got the
scoring started for the Bantams with a goal in the 11th minute,
which proved to be the eventual game-winner. First-year
Lyndsey Shepard (Hamilton, Mass.) followed that up
with her first career collegiate goal, giving the Bantams a 2-0
lead in the first half. With just under four minutes
remaining in the half, Bates junior Lyndsay Beaton (West
Newbury, Mass.) brought the Bobcats within a goal after
finding the back of the net.
Duncan opened the second half with an immediate goal, and
followed up with another later in the period. Senior
co-captain Christy Bradley (Wellesley, Mass.)
scored the fifth Bantam goal midway through the second frame, and
the defensive unit continued to frustrate the Bobcats, keeping them
out of the offensive zone, and Trinity would cruise to their third
win of the season. Junior Gina Dinallo (West
Hartford, Conn.) made four saves in goal for the Bantams,
while senior goalkeeper Katie McEnroe (Hockessin,
Del.) made 11 stops for the Bobcats.
