Box Score 2 Lewiston, Maine - Senior Alexandra Pell (San Diego, Calif.) notched 13 kills and a team-high 21 digs to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0 victory over the Colby College Mules in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) volleyball regular-season finale this afternoon at Bates College.
Trinity, which lost to Bowdoin, ranked No. 25 in the nation, in its morning match at Bates, completes the 2011 regular season with an 18-8 record which matches the 2007 and 1998 campaigns for second-most wins in the regular season in program history. The Bantams finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the NESCAC Standings with Amherst and Connecticut College at 6-4 with the league's championship tournament beginning on Friday, November 4. Colby won, 3-1, against Wesleyan in its morning match to finish the regular season at 11-14 overall and 3-7 in the NESCAC, while Bowdoin completes a perfect trip through the 10-game, NESCAC schedule and will enter the NESCAC Championship Tournament with a 23-2 overall record. The Polar Bears will host the eight-team NESCAC Tourney next weekend as the top seed.
Trinity won against Colby, 25-19, 25-17, and, 25-20, as sophomore OH Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) paced the Bantam offense with 19 kills, and senior S Jen Low (San Francisco, Calif.) added 39 assists. Seniors Penelope Carpenter (St. Thomas, Virgin Islands) and Sarah Blagden (Charleston, S.C.) had 15 and 13 digs, respectively.
Against Bowdoin, Trinity recovered from a losses of 25-14 and, 25-16, in the first two sets to pull out a 26-24 triumph in the third set, but the Polar Bears won the fourth set, 25-15. Brickley made 25 kills, Blagden had 17 digs, Low recorded 31 assists. Trinity senior MH Kelly O'Brien (Pelham, N.Y.) registered seven blocks in the two matches.
