succumbed to the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, 2-0, in the New
England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Championship
Semifinals this afternoon on Ryan Field. No. 5-seeded
Trinity, playing in its fourth straight NESCAC Final Four, falls to
11-5 and hopes to receive an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III
Championship Tournament, while top-seeded Bowdoin remains flawless
for the fall at 16-0 and will The Polar Bears remain unbeaten this
season at 16-0 and will play Middlebury in the title match tomorrow
at noon.
Bowdoin, which outshot Trinity, 30-0, and held an 18-0 edge on
penalty corners, scored twice in the final 17 minutes of the
contest. The first goal came off a Trinity turnover, as Katie
Herter controlled the ball on the left wing and centered it to
Cathleen Smith, who slapped the feed inside the right post with
16:50 remaining. Herter doubled Bowdoin's nine minutes later,
knocking home a rebound off an Ella Curren slapshot with 5:42
left. Trinity senior captain Gina Dinallo (West Hartford,
Conn.) kept the Bantams in the contest, stopping 14 shots in the
setback. Kayla Lessard was not forced to make a save in the
victory, Bowdoin's ninth shutout of the year.
