Box Score Rye, N.Y. - Sophomore Brian Elser (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) and
junior Brendan Turner (Tisdale, Saskatchewan) combined for four
goals as the Manhattanville College Valiant men's hockey team
posted a 5-1 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in
the first-ever meeting between the two teams this evening at
Playland Ice Casino. Trinity drops to 2-5 with its second
setback in a row, while Manhattanville improves to 4-3-1 with its
third consecutive triumph.
The scoring started at the 9:06 mark of the opening period,
sophomore Luc Van Natter (Fort Erie, Ontario) backhanded the
puck past Trinity sophomore backstop Ben Coulthard (South
Windsor, Conn.). Elser scored on a power-play goal later
in the first period. The only goal of the middle frame
came off the stick of Trinity sophomore Nicholas Tierney (Reading,
Mass.), as he scored on a rebound off an initial shot by junior
forward Sabastion Kimmel (Chico, Calif.) in front of the Valiant
cage. Valiant goalie Pierre-Olivier Lemieux (Rimouskie, Quebec)
turned aside all 10 remaining Bantam shots in the frame and the
Valiants headed into the third with a one-goal lead. The
third period saw three more scores comeoff the stick of
Turner. Coulthard finished with 35 saves, while Lemieux has
29 saves.
