Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore Krista Zsitvay (New Vernon, N.J.) scored the game's only goal 6:23 into the game and freshman goalkeeper Rachel Tannenbaum (Berwyn, Pa.) made eight saves to earn a shutout in her collegiate debut, as the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs defeated the Trinity College Bantams, 1-0, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action on Sheppard Field this evening.  Trinity, ranked No. 15 in the nation, falls to 1-1 overall and in the NESCAC, while Amherst is 1-0 overall and in the league with its season-opening triumph and its third win in a row over the Bantams.  .

Trinity senior captain Gina Dinallo (West Hartford, Conn.) allowed just the early goal to Zsitvay, finishing with six saves including four late in the first half and a diving stop that kept Trinity within a goal midway through the second half.  Tannenbaum also dove to stop several well-placed Trinity shots, and left her feet to stop a penalty stroke by Bantam senior defender Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.) with 17:58 left in the game.  Trinity had several chances to score late in the second half, as the Lord Jeffs held off three Bantam penalty corners in the final 17 minutes.  Bantam junior forward Hadley Duncan (Rye, N.Y.) got off three hard shots in a 1:30 span, but one was just wide and two others were blocked by Amherst defenders.  Trinity sophomore Lyndsey Shepard (South Hamilton, Mass.) kept the Bantams within one with a defensive save, catching Zsitvay and blocking her try after the Amherst forward had gotten behind Dinallo.
