Box Score Hartford, Conn. – First-year Sophie Doering (Darien, Conn.) scored the game's first two goals to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-1 victory over the Bates College Bobcats in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action on Sheppard Field this afternoon. Trinity, ranked No. 15 in the nation, improves to 3-1 overall and in the NESCAC with its second win in as many days and its fourth straight win over Bates. The Bobcats fall to 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Doering scored her first goal from junior midfielder Haley Thompson (Ipswich, Mass.) 6:32 into the game and added another at the 13:38 into the contest from freshman Catherine Read (Skillman, N.J.). Bantam scores by senior captain defender Payson Sword (Princeton, N.J.) and junior forward Alanna Capasso (Weston, Mass.) gave Trinity a 4-0 lead in the middle of the second half, before Bates junior midfielder Laura Baran (Pittsburgh, Pa.) broke the Bobcat scoring drought with less than 17 minutes on the clock. Trinity added two late scores, including a successful penalty stroke attempt with no time on the clock by sophomore defender Sarah Duncan (Dedham, Mass.), and finished the game with a 27-to-10 shot advantage and a 15-to-3 edge on penalty corners in a dominant performance. Bantam senior captain goalie Gina Dinallo (West Hartford, Conn.) needed to make just three saves, while two Bobcats combined for eight stops.
