Box Score Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams posted a 7-4
victory over the visiting Colby College Mules in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action
this evening on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports
Center. The Bantams improve to 5-7 overall and 2-5 in the
NESCAC while snapping a two-game losing skid. Colby falls to
3-10 overall and 1-8 in the league with its fourth setback in a
row.
With the game knotted at 1-1 and just 21 seconds left in the
first period, Trinity junior forward streaked down the center of
the ice and one-timed in a perfect pass from just inside the blue
line on the right wing by rookie forward Sam Kane (Needham,
Mass.) to give the Bantams the lead for good. Bantam
junior forward Jeff Menard (Burling, Mass.), who
also assisted on So's go-ahead tally, added to the lead with
a goal from So and twin brother Chris Menard (Burlington,
Mass.) 5:13 into the second period, and Kane fed senior
co-captain forward Joe Tierney (Reading, Mass.)
for Trinity's third straight goal with 11:40 left in the
second stanza for a 4-1 Bantam lead.
Colby was recharged with the insertion of rookie Jordan
Nathan (Upper Saddle River, N.J.) between the pipes after
Trinity's fourth goal, receiving an unassisted goal by senior
forward Mike Doherty (Lynnfield, Mass.) at 13:16
of the second followed almost exactly two minutes later by a score
by senior co-captain forward Dan Nelson (Northbrook,
Ill.). So and senior co-captain defenseman
Michael DeMayo (Seaford, N.Y.) fed Chris Menard on
a goal late in the second period, but Nelson answered for Colby
6:57 into the third frame to complete a hat trick and pull the
visitors to within a goal at 5-4. The Bantams put the game
out of reach late in the third period, as the Menard brothers each
scored a second goal of the game.
Trinity sophomore goalie Ben Coulthard (South Windsor,
Conn.) made 33 saves, while Nathan and junior starting
goalie Matt Delaney (Houston, Texas) had 35
combined stops for the Mules. Chris Menard had two goals and
two assists, while So had a goal and three helpers, and Jeff Menard
added two goals and one assist. Junior blueliner
Scott Harff (Watertown, N.Y.) had three assists
and sophomore forward Nick Lanza (South Burlington,
Vt.) notched two assists for Colby.
