Trinity Women's Basketball Comeback Falls Short At Colby

Box Score
Waterville, Maine - Rachael Mack (Augusta, Maine) finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, and three assists as the Colby College women's basketball team held off the visiting Trinity College squad by a 60-56 count in New England Small College Athletic Conference play tonight.  The Mules move to 12-2 overall and 3-1 in league play, while Trinity falls to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play.

Mack was 6-for-9 from the field and 6-for-6 from the foul line as the Mules used their big height advantage in the game. Mack, a 6-foot-2 forward, combined with 6-3 forward Jil Vaughan (Wareham, Mass.) for 30 points and 17 rebounds. Jacky McLaughlin (Medfield, Mass.) added 11 points and Aarika Ritchie (Lee, Maine) had nine points and three assists for the Mules, who had a 42-34 rebound advantage.  Heather Lyhne (Wethersfield, Conn.) had 14 points and seven rebounds for the Bantams. Kaitlin Ciarleglio (Waterbury, Conn.) added 13 points and a game-high seven assists.

Trinity, which trailed 30-24 at halftime, trailed by as much as 10 points in the second half. However, the Bantams continually fought back and had two opportunities to take the lead in the final eight minutes of play. Trinity only trailed 50-47 after Paige Greene (Owings Mills, Md.) hit a pair of free throws with 4:44 to play, but McLaughlin followed with a 3-point shot on Colby's next possession and the Mules led by four points or more the rest of the way.
