Trinity Women's Basketball Loses At Bowdoin

Brunswick, Maine - The Bowdoin College Polar Bear women's basketball team pulled away from the visiting Trinity College Bantams in the second half of a 61-44 win this afternoon at Morrell Gymnasium.  The Polar Bears snap a two-game NESCAC losing streak and improve to 12-5 overall and 2-2 in the league, while the Bantams fall to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in the conference with their second loss in as many days.

Jill Henrikson scored a game-high 16 points, thanks to 11-13 shooting from the free throw line, to go with five rebounds. Ellery Gould pitched in 12 points and five caroms for the Polar Bears. Bantam senior tri-captain guard Michelle Royals (Torrington, Conn.) scored a team-high 15 for the Bantams.  Bowdoin held the Bantams to just 25% shooting from the field, including a 2-12 performance from long range. The Polar Bears shot 45% and had a 36-30 edge on the glass. The teams combined to take 55 free throws, with Trinity hitting 18-27 and Bowdoin making 22-28. 

Bowdoin owned the lead for the majority of the opening period and pushed their lead with a late surge right before break. The Polar Bears closed the period on an 8-1 run to take a 33-22 edge at intermission.  Trinity was trimemd the Bowdoin led to six points, 36-32, with a 9-0 run capped by a three-pointer by junior guard Carly Napier (Pittsford, N.Y.) with 16:05 remaining. Bowdoin clamped down defensively from there and went on a decisive 20-3 run over the next eight minutes to put the game out of reach.
