New London, Conn. - Junior forward Zach Lombardi (Locust Valley,
N.Y.) scored the game-winning goal with 2:47 left in the third
period to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 3-2
victory over the Connecticut College Camels in New England Small
College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action this
afternoon. Trinity improves to 7-7-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the
NESCAC while extending its unbeaten streak to four games in a row
with its second triumph in two days. Connecticut College
drops to 4-10-2 and 2-7-1 in the league.
Connecticut College won the opening face-off but Trinity
imediately stole the puck back and scored the game's first goal
just 39 seconds in on a shot by sophomore Will Gray (Wellesley,
Mass.) from rookie Samuek Kane (Needham, Mass.). Junior
blueliner Michael DiCenso (Greenville, R.I.) added a second Bantam
goal 7:09 into the first period, and Trinity peppered Camel
goaltender Marcus Calvanico (Flower Mound, Texas) with several
shots right before the break but could not sneak one past him.
Connecticut College junior forward Sean Murray (Stamford, Conn.)
scored on a rebound off an initial shot by senior forward J.J.
McGregor (Wichita, Kansas), just under two minutes into the second
period, and Camel sophomore forward Keith Veronesi (South
Glastonbury, Conn.) converted on a 6-on-4 power play to tie the
score at 2-2 midway through the second. Senior forward Sean
McCarthy (Duxbury, Mass.) and rookie Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass.)
provided helpers on Lombardi's clincher. Trinity sophomore
backstop Ben Coulthard (South Windsor, Conn.) matched Calvanico
with 29 saves. Trinity went 0-for-5 on power plays.
