Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams pulled out a 29-27 win in the third set to put the finishing touch on a 3-0 win over the Endicott College Gulls in volleyball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium. Trinity improves to 7-4 with its second straight win, while Endicott dips to 6-10 on the year.
Trinity easily won the opening two sets by scores of 25-18 and 25-15. Endicott nearly pulled out the third set, holding a 26-25 lead, and needing just one point to force a fourth set, but the Bantams would not allow the contest to be extended. Trinity scored two straight points to take a 27-26 lead in the third set before Endicott would tie it up again at 27-27. Trinity closed the set and the match with two straight points, ending with an exclamation point on a strong kill by senior co-captain Danielle Isaman (Warrenton, Va.).
Isaman finished the night with 11 kills, four aces (both game-highs), and nine digs, while junior co-captain Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) had six kills and 11 digs and junior Amy Hackett (Wallingford, Conn.) collected 15 assists to lead the Bantams. Endicott got strong performances from first-year Alleigh VandeMerkt (Riverside, Ill.), who racked up a game-high 16 assists to go along with three aces, and senior tri-captain Ashley Norley (Sudbury, Mass.), who finished with a game-high 14 digs and an ace.
Trinity hosts Connecticut College, Wesleyan and Roger Williams in Hartford this weekend.
