Hartford, Conn. - Senior captain forward Jeff Menard (Burlington, Mass.) had two goals and two assists and sophomore goaltender Kevin Green (Weymouth, Mass.) made 25 saves to record a shutout, as the Trinity  College Bantams blanked the visiting SUNY Canton Kangaroos, 5-0, in men's ice hockey action this afternoon.  Trinity, playing in its home opener, improves to 3-0-1 with its third consecutive win, while the Kangaroos fall to 3-7 with their fourth setback in a row.

Trinity scored its first goal six minutes into the contest when sophomore forward Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass.) redirected a shot by senior captain forward Zach Lombardi (Locust Valley, N.Y.) past Canton freshman goalie Luis Puig (Chicago, Ill.).  Menard knocked the puck off a Canton defender's shoulder 1:43 later for a 2-0 Bantam lead, and scored his second of the opening stanza with 4:49 on the clock.  Both of Menard's scores were assisted by senior forward Jordan So (Toronto, Ontario) and first-year forward Joe Horak (St. Louis, Mo.).

The score stayed the same through the second period, as Kangaroo junior netminder Michael Pittman (Amarillo, Texas) made 14 saves in 10 minutes after replacing Puig.  Early in the third frame, Pittman added an impressive glove save to his right on a blast by Lombardi from the right face-off circle, but Horak broke through on a rebound for his first career goal 2:21 into the third to give the Bantams a 4-0 lead.  Trinity first-year forward Ford Traff (Wayzata, Minn.) netted his first career goal to round out the scoring with 1:09 left in the contest.  Trinity peppered Puig and Pittman with 57 shots, as Puig had 19 saves in 29:13 of play and Pittman made 33 stops the rest of the way.  So notched three helpers for the home team.
