Hartford, Conn. – Senior captain forward Chris Menard (Burlington, Mass.) scored the game's only goal with 27 seconds left in the third period and junior Ben Coulthard (South Windsor, Conn.) recorded a shutout in net with 44 saves to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 1-0 victory over the visiting Amherst College Lord Jeffs in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) men's ice hockey action this afternoon on Williams Rink in the Koeppel Community Sports Center.  Trinity improves to 4-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in the NESCAC, while the Lord Jeffs, ranked No. 8 in the nation, drop to 4-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the league.

Coulthard turned away double-digit shots in each period, but was matched by Amherst senior Nathan Corey (Anchorage, Alaska) for 59-plus minutes, before Menard wristed the puck past Corey while streaking from left to right in front of the net from 12 feet away during a Bantam power play.  Trinity senior forward Jordan So (Toronto, Ontario) and freshman forward Jim Burt (Hamden, Conn.) assisted on the tally.  Corey totaled 37 saves including 20 in the second stanza, including a denial of Trinity junior forward Will Gray (Wellesley, Mass.) on a breakaway midway through the third period.  Amherst nearly scored short-handed later in the third, but Coulthard make quick stops on consecutive shots by sophomore forward Andrew Fenwick (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) and sophomore defenseman Jake Turrin (Brewster, N.Y.).  The Bantams killed off a penalty in the final five minutes prior to winning the game with the extra skater.
