Box Score Lewiston, Maine - The visiting Trinity College Bantams
controlled play with a 26-9 advantage in shots attempted en route
to a 2-0 New England Small College Athletic Conference
(NESCAC) field hockey victory over the Bates College
Bobcats this afternoon at Campus Avenue Field. Trinity,
ranked No. 17 in the nation, is now 3-0 overall and in the
NESCAC.
Trinity attempted the first six shots of the game and 11 of the
12 taken in the first half. In the 23rd minute, the Bantams
converted a penalty corner play as senior co-captain midfielder
Haley Thompson (Ipswich, Mass.) shoveled a nice pass across the top
of the circle to junior defender Sarah Duncan (Dedham, Mass.) for a
hard shot past Bates goalie Becca Otley. The final 12 minutes of
the period included just one shot for either team, with Otley
stopping Trinity's Shannon Ryan (Freedon, N.H.) from increasing the
lead, and the Bantams took a 1-0 advantage into
halftime. In the second half, Bantam senior forward Hadley
Duncan (Rye, N.Y.) jammed in a close-range insurance goal in a
scramble near the Bates cage. Trinity junior goalie Anne
Marie Scalambrino (Chicago, Ill.) made two saves to record her
first career shutout.
