Trinity Volleyball Completes Heroic Comeback over ECSU in Season Opener

 Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams rebounded from a 2-0 deficit to take a 3-2 victory over the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors on the first night of the Trinity College Volleyball Invitational at Oosting Gymnasium this evening.  Trinity dropped the first two sets, 25-21, and 25-23, before winning the last three, 25-20, 25-19, and, 15-9.

Trinity first-year MH Kate Giddens (Ranchos Palos Verdes, Calif.) had a nice debut with 13 kills, 11 digs, and four blocks, while junior co-captain Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) added 12 kills and eight digs for the Bantams.  Bantam junior Amy Hackett (Wallingford, Conn.) and rookie Gina Buzzelli (Cheshire, Conn.) combined for 33 assists, and first-year RS Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added four service aces.  Katie Wilson (Pittsford, Calif.) and Samantha Browning (Mystic, Conn.) had 10 kills apiece for Eastern Connecticut, while Allie Henry (Middletow, Conn.) notched 30 Warrior assists, and Nicki Gasch (New Fairfield, Conn.) collected 10 digs and four service aces for the visitors.

"Eastern Connecticut played a terrific game, and made us work hard for every point," said Trinity Head Coach Jen Bowman.  "I am proud of our team, particularly for how we fought back.  We remained composed and focused to the end of the match, which was great to see.  It's a wonderful way to start our season."

In its earlier match, Eastern Connecticut blanked Lasell, 3-0, as Wilson had 13 kills and Gasch added nine.  Sara Biondo (Coventry, R.I.) totaled eight kills for the Lasers.  In the other 5 p.m. match at Oosting Gym, Kim Farris (Atlanta, Ga.) led Wesleyan with 18 kills, Claire Larson (Chanhassen, Minn.) had 28 kills and 13 digs, and Monica Leslie (Newton, Mass.) had four blocks in a 3-1 win over Salve Regina. Jennifer Duggan (Merrimack, N.H.) had 13 kills, Taylor Violet (Tiverton, R.I.) had 23 assists and six aces and Megan Clancy (Chelmsford, Mass.) had 13 digs for Salve Regina in the match.  The tournament will resume tomorrow at 11 a.m.
