Trinity Women's Basketball Defeats Rivier

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. –  Trinity junior forward Shantel Hanniford (Nantucket, Mass.) picked up 10 points and six rebounds in 20 minutes of action to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 62-43 win over the Rivier University Raiders in women's basketball action this evening in Oosting Gymnasium.  Trinity improves to 8-5 overall, while the Raiders drop to 7-5 on the year.

Trinity came out of the gate strong, as Hanniford scored six of her ten points in the opening nine minutes, leading a 12-1 run to open the game.  Rivier could not recover from the early hole, despite aggressive offensive attack from sophomore Deanna Purcell (Hudson, N.H.), who is nearing 1,000 career points in just her second season with the Raiders.  Purcell finished with a game-high 18 points, including 10-13 shooting from the line and 50 percent shooting from the floor.

Trinity kept Rivier at an arm's length the entire game, and managed to separate themselves further down the stretch, as the Bantams rode a wave a momentum and continued to hit their shots.  Trinity outshot the Raiders 40 percent to 28 percent, and out-rebounded their opponent, 49-33.

Trinity rookie Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) scored eight points, grabbed five rebounds and added a block to help the Bantams, while Rivier junior Britney Lane (Waterford, Vt.) netted ten points in 11 minutes of action for the Raiders.
