Trinity Field Hockey Nipped In Overtime By No. 4-Ranked Bowdoin

Hartford, Conn. – Colleen Finnerty scored the game-winning goal with 8:04 left in the second overtime to lead the visiting Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 2-1 win over the Trinity College Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) field hockey action this afternoon on Sheppard Field. Trinity, which received a game-tying goal from first-year forward Casey Quinn (Providence, R.I.) with 19:50 remaining in the second half, drops to 5-4 overall and 3-3 in the NESCAC with its second one-goal loss in a row to a team ranked in the nation's top four. No. 4-ranked Bowdoin improves to 7-1 overall and 4-1 in the league with its fifth consecutive victory.

Bowdoin scored early when Katie Riley fed Emily Simonton 1:40 into the contest on the first Polar Bear shot. Bantam sophomore goalie Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) withstood the next 17 shots against her and made six of her 13 saves in the overtimes before Finnerty ended the game. Hannah Gartner had four saves for Bowdoin.
