Trinity Field Hockey Beaten At Bowdoin In NESCAC Quarterfinals

Box Score

Brunswick, Maine - Katie Riley scored four goals to lead the Bowdoin College Polar Bears to a 6-1 victory over the visiting Trinity College Bantams in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) Feld Hockey Championship Quarterfinals this afternoon on Ryan Field.  Trinity ends the year at 8-7m, while No. 2-ranked Bowdoin improves to 13-2.  Riley's four goals tied the NESCAC mark set by Middlebury's Lauren Greer last year.  The Polar Bears advance to the NESCAC semifinals next weekend against Tufts.

Riley scored for the first time 1:39 into the game on a rebound.  Rachel Kennedy stole a ball at midfield and carried it into the Trinity zone, and centered a pass to Riley, who finished it off for a 2-0 lead that the Polar Bears carried into halftime.  Bowdoin put the contest out of reach with a four-goal surge in the second period.  Trinity received a late goal from junior defender Sophie Doering (Darien, Conn.) with 7:30 remaining, off an assist from senior tri-captain defender Sarah Duncan (Dedham, Mass.).  Trinity sophomore Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) had seven saves and Hannah Gartner made two saves for Bowdoin.
