Waltham, Mass. - Junior Senzo Mauve-Maphisa (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe)
and first-year Morgan Feldman (Upper Brookville, N.Y.) won, 8-6, at
No. 2 doubles and both won singles matches in straight sets to lead
the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 7-2 victory over the
Brandeis University Judges in the opening round of the Nor'Easter
Bowl Women's Tennis Tournament this afternoon. The Bantams,
ranked No. 24 in the nation, advance to the tournament semifinals
against top-ranked Amherst tomorrow at event co-host Wellesley
College. Trinity improves to 5-3, and Brandeis, which plays
Bates tomorrow, drops to 4-5 with its first loss in three
matches.
Trinity led, 2-1, after doubles play as juniors Regan Cherna
(Bronxville, N.Y.) and Elizabeth Gerber (Bethesda, Md.) won, 8-3,
at the No. 3 spot. The Bantams took five of six singles
matches. Senior co-captain Hillary Hoyt (New York, N.Y.) and
rookie Melita Ferjanic (Samobor, Croatia) won in straight sets,
while senior co-captain Frances Cameron (Mill Valley, Calif.)
outlasted Alexa Katz, 6-4, 6-7 (7-3), 10-7.
