Box Score Hartford, Conn. – Sophomore MH Kate Giddens (Rancho Palos
Verdes, Calif.) totaled 12 kills for a .400 hitting percentage, two
aces, and three blocks to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-1
victory over the visiting Western Connecticut State University
Colonials in volleyball action this evening at Oosting Gymnasium.
Trinity improves to 7-2 with its fifth consecutive win, while the
Colonials drop to 8-3 with their first loss in four matches.
Trinity won the first set handily, 25-18, and edged Western
Connecticut, 25-23, in the second set. The Colonials rallied to win
the third set, 25-23, but Trinity took control with a 25-17 triumph
in the fourth set. Bantam sophomores Hunter Drews (Clifton Park,
N.Y.) and Katie Stueber (Darien, Conn.) added nine kills apiece,
while Stueber also had a .444 hitting percentage and two blocks.
Trinity first-year L Kristen Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) had a
career-high 30 digs, while senior tri-captain Amy Hackett
(Wallingford, Conn.) and rookie Randi Whitham (South Weymouth,
Mass.) totaled 41 assists. Karissa Smith paced Western Connecticut
with 11 kills, while Jennifer Hogan recorded 35 assists, and Rachel
Volpe collected three aces and 26 digs.
