Box Score 2 Waltham, Mass. - Senior tri-captain OH Hannah Brickley
(Melrose, Mass.) notched nine kills, two aces, and 10 digs to lead
the Trinity College Bantams to a 3-0 victory over the Rhode Island
College Anchorwomen in its final match of the Brandeis University
Volleyball Invitational. Trinity, which also dropped a very
close 3-2 decision against the United States Coast Guard Academy
Bears, moves to 2-1 for the year. Coast Guard won all
four of its matches in the tournament, and Rhode Island College
went 0-4.
Trinity made quick work of the Anchorwomen, 25-10, 25-8,
25-17, rallying quickly after suffering a 15-13 setback in the
deciding fifth set of the Coast Guard loss. Trinity won the
first and fourth sets against the Bears, 25-20, and,
27-25, and lost the second, 25-17, and the third,
25-21. Sophomore MH Kate Giddens (Rancho
Palos Verdes, Calif.) made eight kills, while freshman L Shelby
deck (Newport Beach, Calif.) had 10 digs, and classmate Randi
Whitman (Weymouth, Mass.) contributed 11 assists for the Bantams
against Rhode Island College. Brickley recorded 13 kills and
29 digs against Coast Guard, while Giddens had 13 kills, Whitman
registered 27 assists, and first-year L Kristen
Cooprider (Hopkinton, Mass.) added 30 digs. Brickley
represented Trinity on the all-tournament team.
"It was a great opening weekend for us," said Trinity Head Coach
Jen Bowman (10th Season). "We played well against really
tough opponents and responded well."
