Box Score Medford, Mass. - Junior Hayley Kanner (Scarsdale, N.Y.) scored
16 points to lead the No. 7-ranked Tufts University Jumbo women's
basketball team to a 68-48 New England Small College Athletic
Conference (NESCAC) win over the visiting Trinity College Bantams
this afternoon at Cousens Gym. Trinity falls to 10-7 overall
and 3-1 in the NESCAC) and was led by seniors Taylor Murtaugh
(Bronx, N.Y.) and Hannah Brickley (Melrose, Mass.) who each
went 5-for-8 from the field for 10 points. Brickley added four
rebounds and three assists in the losing effort. Junior
Hannah Foley (Acton, Mass) added nine points and a game-high seven
rebounds, while senior Liz Moynihan came off the bench and chipped
in eight points, three rebounds and two assists for Tufts which
improves to 14-0 overall and 3-0 in the league.
With an 8-6 lead at the 15:07 mark, the Jumbos used a 13-2 run
over the next six minutes for a 21-8 cushion at 8:51. A jumper by
sophomore Emma Roberson (Arlington, Mass.) with five seconds
remaining in the opening half gave the home team their largest lead
of 14 going into halftime 37-23. The Bantams opened the half
on a 6-0 run on baskets by Murtaugh, sophomore center Mackenzie
Griffin (Stamford, Conn.) and Brickley to come within eight points
at 37-29. The Jumbos responded with an 7-0 run and
their lead extended to 23 points on a trey by Caitlin McClure
(Arlington, Va.) with 4:51 remaining in the game. The Jumbos
held the edge in rebounding 36-34 and forced 18 turnovers. The
Bantams shot 33.3 percent (17-51) from the field, and did not
make a three-pointer.
