Box Score Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams erupted for
10 goals in a lopsided win over the visiting Western New England
University Golden Bears in men's ice hockey action this
evening at Williams Rink. Trinity improves to 7-2 entering
Tuesday night's outdoor game against No. 5-ranked Williams at
Fenway Park with the 10-1 triumph, winning its second in a row with
a 28-day layoff in between games. Western New England drops
to 7-4 with its first loss in four games.
Trinity junior forward Liam McKillop (New York, N.Y.) opened the
scoring 9:16 into the contest from junior captain defenseman
Michael Flynn (Cheshire, Conn.) and sophomore forward Jim Burt
(Hamden, Conn.), and rookie forward Sean Orlando (Ivyland, Pa.)
tallied the game-winner less than two minutes later from sophomore
forward Michael Hawkrigg (Toronto, Ontario) and fellow freshman
forward Ryan Cole (Anchorage, Alaska). Bantam junior forward
Jackson Brewer (Newton, Mass.) and Burt added goals in the first
period, before the Golden Bears got on the board early in the
second frame on a goal by junior defenseman Michael Darrar (Monroe,
N.Y.) from senior captain forward John Kelly (Staten Island,
N.Y.). Brewer answered with two more goals in the second
stanza, and the Bantams closed it out with four tallies in the
final period.
Cole topped Trinity in points with five on a goal and four
assists, while Brewer had a hat trick plus one assist, and Hawkrigg
had a goal and three helpers. Senior Ben Coulthard (South
Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore Nathaniel Heilbron (West Vancouver,
British Columbia) made 19 and seven saves, respectively, in the
Trinity net. Golden Bear senior backstop Eric Sorenson
(Fairport, N.Y.) had nine stops in just under 17 minutes, before
yielding to junior Tim Carr (Pine Bush, N.Y.) who totaled 31 saves
the rest of the way.
