Trinity Volleyball Loses At Tufts

Medford, Mass. - The visiting Trinity College Bantams dropped a 3-0 decision against the Tufts University Jumbos in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) volleyball action this afternoon at Cousens Gym.  Trinity falls to 11-6 overall and 3-4 in the NESCAC, while the Jumbos move into second place in the NESCAC standings with a 5-1 conference record and an 11-7 overall mark.

The Jumbos jumped out to an early lead in the first set but the Bantams were able to even the score at nine apiece.  The Bantams then moved out to a 15-12 lead, but the Jumbos evened the score at 16, and eventually earned the 25-19 win.  The home team once again jumped out to an early lead in the second set, and used seven consecutive points behind the serve of senior tri-captain Hayley Hopper to earn a 14-4 lead.  The Bantams scored a point, and the Jumbos went on to add six more points behind the serve of junior Carolina Berger to push the lead to 21-5.  The Jumbos eventually won the second set 25-10, and took the third, 25-13. 

Trinity junior tri-captain MH Kate Giddens (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) finished with nine kills and junior tri-captain RS Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, N.Y.) had six kills. Sophomore Kristen Cooprider (Hopkiton, Mass.) finished with a match-high nine digs, while junior Gina Buzzeli (Cheshire, Conn.) had eight digs and ten assists.
