Box Score Hartford, Conn. – First-year forward Kelcie Finn
(Weymouth, Mass.) notched goal and three assists to lead the
Trinity College Bantams to a 5-1 victory over the visiting
Springfield College Pride in field hockey action this evening on
Sheppard Field. Trinity, ranked No. 13 in the nation,
improves to 9-3 with its second win in a row and its seventh
consecutive triumph over the Pride. Springfield falls to 5-7
with its second setback in a row.
The game was scoreless for the opening 15 minutes, as
Springfield junior goalkeeper Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.) made
five of her 16 saves in a four-minute span, but Finn broke the
drought with an unassisted tally 15:22 into the game. Fin fed
junior midfielder Nikki Rivera (Rockaway, N.J.) across the cage,
and Rivera slapped the ball into a wide open net in the
19th minute to give Trinity a 2-0 lead at the
break. The Bantams had two penalty corners in the final 1:25
of the first half, but the Pride blocked a pair of shots and the
horn blew before the second corner has time to develop.
Trinity held a 17-3 edge shooting at halftime, and Villa had seven
saves.
Less than five minutes into the second stanza, Finn assisted
junior Olivia Tapsall (Greenwich, Conn.) on a marker for a 3-0
Bantam lead. Springfield senior defender Sarah Ducharme
(Dudley, Mass.) scored off a nice feed from left to right in front
of the cage by junior forward Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) 7:59
into the second half. Less than 90 seconds later, Finn
brought the ball up the left side, and deked Villa before passing
again across the cage to a sophomore Casey Quinn (Providence, R.I.)
who just had to tap the ball over the goal line for a 4-1 Bantam
lead. Trinity senior co-captain defender Sophie Doering
(Darien, Conn.) scored on a blast from the top of the circle off a
corner to round out the scoring. Trinity finished with a 36-8
shooting advantage and had 12 penalty corners to four for the
Pride. Bantam junior goalie Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury,
Mass.) had three saves.
