Hartford, Conn. – On senior day, the Trinity College women's tennis team blanked visiting Bates, 9-0, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action Friday afternoon at the Assaiante Tennis Center. With the win, the Bantams snapped a three-match losing streak to end the regular season with a 9-7 record and a 3-4 mark in league play, while the Bobcats dropped their fifth straight to fall to 7-8 on the year and 2-4 in conference matches.
Trinity made quick work of Bates in doubles play as the tandem of Melita Ferjanic (Samobor, Croatia) and Morgan Feldman (Upper Bookville, N.Y.) won, 8-1, at No. 1. The duo of Senzo Mavune-Maphisa (Bulawayo, Zimbabwe) and Regan Cherna (Bronxville, N.Y.) cruised to an 8-0 triumph at No. 2. The Bantams swept the doubles point as Elizabeth Gerber (Bethesda, Md.) and Caroline Gagne (Excelsior, Minn.) took their match, 8-6, at No. 3.
In singles action, Trinity won all six matches, taking five of the matches in straight sets. Ferjanic won, 7-6, 7-5, at No. 1 and Feldman coasted to a straight set win at No. 2. Cherna, Gerber and Gagne each won their matches in two sets at No. 4, 5 and 6, respectively. Mavune-Maphisa scored a come-from-behind, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, victory at No. 3 to help the Bantams earn their second 9-0 conference win of the year.
