Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College field hockey team won its third straight game on Saturday afternoon, defeating Bates, 2-0, in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) action at Sheppard Field. With the victory, the Bantams improved to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in league play, while the Bobcats fell to 1-5 on the year and 0-5 in conference tilts.

Trinity junior goalkeeper Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) was stellar between the pipes recording her second consecutive shutout to notch her fifth win of the season. Fitzpatrick turned aside the only shot she faced en route to her third clean sheet of the year. On the opposite end, senior Cristina Vega made eight saves in a losing effort for Bates.

Bantams first-year forward Brenna Hobin (Madison, Conn.) opened the scoring in the 29th minute netting her third tally of 2014 off a pass from first-year midfielder Cara Daly (South Hamilton, Mass.). The assist marked Daly's first collegiate point and the goal was all Trinity would need thanks to ball control and a stout defensive effort. The Bantams back line allowed less than three shots for the second time this year.

In the second half, sophomore Casey Quinn (Providence, R.I.) gave the Bantams some breathing room with an insurance goal in the 39th minute. Junior forward Olivia Tapsall (Greenwich, Conn.) picked up the assist on Quinn's marker and she has now registered a point or better in all three of Trinity's conference wins.

The Bantams held a 12-2 advantage in shots and took five penalty corners, while Bates took zero.

Trinity returns to action tomorrow, Sunday, Sept. 28, traveling to the Bay State to square off with Bates in non-conference action.
