Hartford, Conn. – The Trinity College Bantams made quick
work of the visiting Yale University Bulldogs, sprinting to an 8-0
lead before finishing with an 8-1 victory in men's squash
action this evening at Kellner Center. Trinity, ranked No. 2
nationally but owning a 7-2 win over top-ranked St. Lawrence on
Saturday among its four wins since the latest poll, improves to
11-0, while No. 6-ranked Yale falls to 4-3 with its with second
consecutive setback.
Trinity junior No. 3 Juan Vargas (Bogota, Colombia) breezed to a
3-0 win, and senior No. 9 Elroy Leong (Selangor, Malaysia) posted a
3-1 victory in his final regular-season home game to give the home
team a 2-0 lead. Bantam sophomore Affeeq Ismail (Kuching,
Malaysia) and rookie Rick Penders (Maastricht, England) won easily,
3-0 each, at No. 8 and No. 5, respectively, while senior co-captain
Moustafa Hamada (Alexandria, Egypt) came through in the No. 6 match
with a 3-2 triumph over Yale rookie Max Martin (New Haven, Conn.)
after dropping the first two games. Senior Miled Zarazua
(Mexico City, Mexico) won, 3-1, over Bulldog junior Sam Fenwick
(Cardiff, Wales) to give Trinity a sweep of the first two
waves.
Yale sophomore Liam McClintock (Boston, Mass.) eked out a 3-2
win in the No. 4 match with gutty wins in the fourth (14-12) and
fifth (13-11) games for the Bulldog point, while Bantam senior
Vrishab Kotian (Mumbai, India) won, 3-0, at the top of the ladder
over Yale sophomore Thomas Dembinski (New Haven, Conn.), and
sophomore James Evans (Maidstone, England) rounded out the scoring
with a 3-0 win at No. 7.
