Trinity Women's Basketball Loses At Colby

Waterville, Maine - The Colby College women's basketball team held visiting Trinity College without a point for nearly nine minutes in the first half to take control of the game in a 60-42 win over the Bantams in New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) play this afternoon.  Trinity falls to 6-12 overall and 1-5 in the NESCAC with its second setback in a row with a rescheduled road game at No. 24-ranked Bowdoin tomorrow at 3 p.m.  Colby moved to 13-5 overall and 3-3 in league play heading a 1 p.m. game with No. 5-ranked Amherst tomorrow. 

Trinity started strong with an early 9-4 lead, led by five points by junior center Mackenzie Griffin (Stamford, Conn.), but went cold during a 12-0 run by the Mules over the an 8:52 span. After the Bantams scored on a put-back by freshman forward Emily Llerena (New Milford, Conn.) to make it 16-11, the Mules went on an 8-0 run to push the margin to 24-11.  Colby took a 29-15 lead into halftime and extended its advantage to as high as 28 points at 51-23 in the second stanza.

Griffin led the Bantams with nine points and two blocked shots, while senior Taylor Higgins (Merrick, N.Y.) scored eight points, and sophomore Sheena Landy (Durham, Conn.) pulled down a game-high seven rebounds.  Carylanne Wolfington was 5-for-7 from 3-point range and had a game-high 19 points for the home team. She was the lone player in the game in double figures. Colby shot 42.1 percent (8-for-19) from 3-point range and forced 20 Trinity turnovers.
