Trinity Volleyball Splits Doubleheader on Second Day of Hall of Fame Invitational

Northampton, Mass. - The Trinity College volleyball team split their doubleheader on the second day of the Hall of Fame Invitational hosted by Smith College. The Bantams lost 3-0 to Springfield in the morning game before coming back to defeat Brandeis 3-1 to move to 8-12 overall on the season. 

Trinity lost their first game of the day in three straight sets to Springfield with set scores of 25-17, 25-18, and 25-16. The Bantams were led by seniors Kate Giddens (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) and Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, N.Y.) who both had nine kills each and combined for 35 of Trinity's 64 digs. Junior Shelby Deck (Newport Beach, Calif.) led the team with 13 assists and sophomore Grace Metry (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) added 14 digs, however the Bantams were outplayed by the Pride, recording a team kill percentage of .085% compared to Springfield's .204%.

The Pride were led by Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) who led the team with eight kills to go along with five block assists while teammates Marnae Mawdsley (Bolton, Conn.) and Molly Giannatasio (East Lyme, Conn.) combined for 24 of Springfield's 28 assists. 

Game two saw the Bantams beat the Judges in four sets by scores of 17-25, 25-19, 26-24, and 25-18. Giddens led all players with 16 kills to go along with 14 digs and three service aces. Deck followed her 13 assist performance in the first game with an additional 17 while freshman Rachel Underwood (Danville, Calif.) added 16 assists to go along with 10 digs. Metry tallied 19 digs to compliment three service aces. 

For Brandeis, Zara Platt (Fountain Valley, Calif.) led the team with 13 kills while teammate Leah Pearlman (El Paso, Texas) tallied 16 assists and 10 digs. The Judges recorded 27 attack errors compared to just 18 for Trinity.

The Bantams are back in action on Friday, October 30, as they host New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) opponent Amherst at 7:00 p.m. in Oosting Gymnasium.
