Orange, Calif. – The Trinity College women's tennis team opened the spring season with a 5-4 loss to Chapman at the Chapman Tennis Courts on during the team's spring break trip in California. With the loss, the Bantams move to 0-1, while the Panthers won their second straight to improve to 3-4.
Chapman got off to a hot start, winning all three doubles matches. All three matches were tightly contested as Trinity fell, 8-6, at No.1 and No. 3. The Bantam duo of first-year Vanja Babunski (Belgrade, Serbia) and classmate Ania Aliev (Needham, Mass.) lost 8-5 at No. 2.
In singles action, Trinity won four of six matches. Junior Morgan Feldman (Upper Bookville, N.Y.) and Babunski both scored straight-set victories for the Bantams at No. 2 and No. 3, respectively. At No. 1, senior co-captain Melita Ferjanic (Samobor, Croatia) netted a come-from-behind triumph. After losing the first set, 6-1, Ferjanic rallied to win the second, 6-4, and the third, 6-2. First-year Emily Curtis (Milton, Mass.) earned the fourth point of the match for Trinity with a come-from-behind win at No. 6. Curtis fell, 6-3, in the opening set and won the next two by scores of 6-3 and 6-4.
Trinity continues its west coast swing with a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) clash with Bowdoin on March 18.
