Box Score Waterville, Maine – The Trinity College Volleyball team lost 3-0 on Friday night against New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) foe, Colby, in their first conference game of the season. The loss drops the Bantams to 2-3 while the Mules improve to 4-3.
Trinity was paced by senior outside hitter Kate Giddens (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) who led all hitters with 15 kills. Fellow senior Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, N.Y.) added eight kills of her own while freshman Rachel Underwood (Danville, Calif.) led the team with five aces. Defensively for the Bantams, Gina Buzzelli (Chesire, Conn.) recorded 31 assists and eight digs.
The first set was evenly matched as both teams were tied 17 times. The Mules eventually won the set 25-23 on consecutive points by Sarah Arvidson (Andover, Mass.) and Natalie Roy (Los Altos, Calif.) In the second set, Trinity got out to an early 5-1 lead, however the Mules would come back and tie things up at 11. Colby would take the lead for good at 16-15, eventually winning the set 25-20.
Set three saw Trinity start with a 3-0 lead before surrendering a 14-3 run by Colby. Trinity would cut the lead to one point at 23-22 however Colby held on to win the set 25-22 and clinch the game.
Trinity is back at it tomorrow as they look to rebound against Bates in Lewiston, Maine at 2:00 p.m.
