Middletown, Conn. - The Trinity College Women's volleyball team was defeated in three straight sets on Friday night against the Wesleyan University Cardinals, 25-23, 25-18, and 25-14. The loss drops the Bantams to 3-5 on the year while the Cardinals improve to 4-4. Wesleyan ended a seven game winless drought against the Bantams, despite leading the all-time series 45-24.

Trinity was without senior outside hitter and co-captain Kate Giddens (Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif.) who leads the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) with 128 kills this season. Fellow senior and co-captain Hunter Drews (Clifton Park, N.Y.) led the Bantams offensively with nine kills and two aces while also tallying 12 digs. Senior Gina Buzzelli (Chesire, Conn.) and junior Shelby Deck (Newport Beach, Calif.) led the team with 17 and 11 assists, respectively. Drews and sophomore Grace Metry (Grosse Point Park, Mich.) combined for 24 of the teams 49 digs with 12 a piece while senior Katie Stueber (Darien, Conn.) had three blocks. Trinity managed just a .091 kill percentage, well below their season average of .176.

Wesleyan was paced by Madeleine Lundberg (West Newton, Mass.) who led the Cardinals with four aces and 23 total kills (.261%). Junior Heidi Westerman (Soldotna, Arkansas) tallied 27 of Wesleyan's 28 assists, and Rachel Savage (Portland, Or.), who is second in the NESCAC in digs per set at 5.33, recorded 13 on the night.

Trinity is back in action again tomorrow where they will take on Coast Guard at Wesleyan's Silloway Gymnasium. Game time is set for 12:00 p.m.
