New Haven, Conn. - The top-seeded Trinity College Bantams handed the No. 8-seeded Columbia University Lions a 9-1 loss in the opening round of the College Squash Association (CSA) National Team Championships at Yale University this afternoon.  The defending CSA National Champion Bantams improve to 20-1 and will face the No. 5-seeded University of Rochester Yellowjackets in the semifinals tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. at Yale.  Rochester won, 8-1, against Pennsylvania in its quarterfinal match, and the Bantams edged the Yellowjackets, 5-4, during the regular season in Hartford.  Rochester also gave Trinity its only loss in 2014-15.  Columbia drops to 7-6 and will play Penn in the consolations tomorrow.

Trinity put on an impressive performance, winning seven matches by a score of 3-0.  Bantam sophomore James Evans (Maidstone, England) kept his perfect college record intact with a 3-2 triumph at the No. 5 position, winning the fifth game, 11-3, after losing the fourth, 11-8, against Josh Sekhar.  Trinity first-year Mudit Pant (Ghaziabad, India) allowed just eight total points in his 3-0 win at the bottom spot on the ladder, while Rishi Tandon edged Bantam sophomore Rick Penders (Maastricht, Netherlands), 3-2, at the top spot.
