Trinity Men's Ice Hockey Routs Franklin Pierce To Stay Perfect

Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - First-year forward Eric Benshadle (Getzville, N.Y.) had a hat trick plus an assist to lead the Trinity College Bantams to an 11-0 victory over the visiting Franklin Pierce University Ravens in men's ice hockey action this afternoon at Williams Rink.  Trinity, ranked No. 3 in the nation, improves to 5-0 with its 16th consecutive home win, while the Ravens drop to 2-7 with their fourth loss in a row.  The Bantams, who blanked the Ravens last season, 12-0, on the Sunday after Thanksgiving, will visit No. 8-ranked Hamiltin in a New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) contest on Saturday, December 2 at 7 p.m.

Trinity, which set a school record with 77 shots on goal, scored four times in the first period, twice in the second, and five more times in the final frame.  Rookie forward Dylan Healey (Goshen, N.Y.) scored the first goal 7:16 into the game and the third with 6:03 left in the first period, while junior forward Ryan Pfeffer (Canton, Mass.) provided assists on both Healey tallies.  Trinity senior captain Tyler Whitney (Wakefield, Mass.) scored unassisted 25 seconds prior to Healey's second goal, and fed fellow senior captain Anthony Sabitsky (Sicklerville, N.J.) on the final goal of the first frame on a Bantam power play with just under five minutes on the clock.

Nine Bantams finished with multiple points in the contest, including Benshadle, who scored three times over a 6:05 stretch in the third period, Whitney and sophomore defenseman Liam Feeney (Foxboro, Mass.) who had a goal and two assists apiece, and first-year defenseman James Callahan (Gladstone, N.J.) who assisted on three goals.  Trinity sophomore Tedy Loughborough (Wellesley Hills, Mass.) needed to make just 17 saves to collect his second shutout in as many starts this winter, while Raven backstops Austin Christopher (Winthrop, Maine) and Ian Wallace (West Islip, N.Y.) combined for 66 saves.
