Trinity Women's Tennis Returns North With Win Against Wheaton

Hartford, Conn. - First-year Jillian Winer (Bolton, Mass.) did not yield a single point in singles or doubles to lead the Trinity College Bantams to a 6-3 victory over the visiting Wheaton College Lyons in women's tennis action at Ferris Athletic Center Fieldhouse this afternoon.  Trinity improves to 3-2 with its second victory in a row, while the Lyons fall to 7-7.  The match was the first since Trinity returned from a four-match trip to California last week.

Trinity led, 2-1, after doubles play thanks to an 8-0 win at the No. 3 position by Winer and sophomore Jane Weber (Winchester, Mass.) and an 8-1 triumph by junior co-captain Ania Aliev (Needham, Mass.) and rookie Krista Jiranek (Owings Mills, Md.) at the No. 2 spot. Aliev, Jiranek, and Winer each won in straight sets to clinch the Bantam victory, and Weber added a shortened 8-1 win at sixth singles.
