Football Bashes Bowdoin, 48-6

Box Score

Lewiston, Maine - Rookie QB Seamus Lambert (North Andover, Mass.) went 22-29 for 280 yards passing and three touchdowns while adding 75 yards rushing on 15 carries as the Trinity College football team routed the Bowdoin College Polar Bears, 48-6, on Saturday afternoon at Whittier Field in Brunswick, Maine. The Bantams, ranked No. 7 in New England, pick up their 20th-straight victory over the Polar Bears to improve to 5-1 on the year. Bowdoin falls to 0-6 overall with the loss.

In the early going, Bowdoin had the first true opportunity to score, driving deep into Trinity territory in the first quarter, but an interception by senior safety Chandler Colberg (Madison, Conn.) cut short the Polar Bears' chance to take the lead. After the pick, Trinity marched 60 yards in seven plays and took a 7-0 lead on a 21-yard touchdown strike from Lambert to senior WR Koby Schofer (Northbridge, Mass.). The touchdown was Lambert's first of his career after earning his first career start on the day.

The Bantams scored again in the final minute of the opening quarter, as Lambert flipped a two-yard pass to Joe Samuelman (North Andover, Mass.) to make it 13-0 after the PAT was blocked.

Trinity added two more touchdowns in the second quarter to take a comfortable, 27-0 lead into the break. The first came via a one-yard rushing score by senior tri-captain RB Max Chipouras (Longmeadow, Mass.) which capped off a six play, 72 yard drive that lasted just 2:30. Lambert and Schofer hooked up once again, this time on a 17-yard air strike with 50 seconds left before halftime, to put the Bantams up by four scores.

Chipouras scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, a 24-yarder, to give Trinity a 34-0 edge out of the break. Bowdoin ended the shutout in the third quarter with eight seconds remaining, capping a 43-yard drive with a four-yard run by QB Austin McCrum (Saco, Maine) to cut the lead to 34-6.

Trinity added two more scores in the fourth quarter to cap off the 42-point victory. The first came on an 11-yard touchdown run by rookie WR Devante Reid (White Plains, N.Y.), followed by a 15-yard scamper from rookie RB Spencer Lockwood (Killingly, Conn.).

The Bantams finished with 505 yards of total offense while holding Bowdoin to just 161 total yards. Trinity also forced four turnovers with interceptions by Colberg, rookie CB Jalen Weathers (Chicago, Ill.), sophomore DB Matt McCarthy (North Reading, Mass.) and junior DB Matt Patry (Medfield, Mass.). Junior DE Devyn Perkins (Brookline, Mass.) also forced his league-leading third fumble of the season to go along with two tackles for loss. McCarthy led the Bantam defensive unit with seven tackles (six solo) while rookie safety Robert Levine (Catonsville, Md.) added five solo tackles.

Trinity returns to The Coop next weekend for a 1 p.m. showdown with Middlebury, which improved to 4-2 on the year after escaping with a 35-34 victory over Bates this afternoon.
