Orange, Calif. - Senior tri-captain Ania Aliev (Needham, Mass.) won the clinching match, 7-6 (4), 6-3 at No. 5 singles to lead the visiting Trinity College Bantams to a 5-4 win over the Chapman University Panthers in women's tennis action this evening at Lastinger Tennis Center. Trinity improves to 1-1 with its first victory of the spring, while the Panthers drop to 1-6 with their sixth consecutive setback. The match was halted due to rain with Chapman leading, 3-2, and completed on Wednesday, March 14 in the evening. The score was tied, 4-4, when Aliev finished off Chapman's Vasilisa Trofimova for the win. The Bantams face Wheaton (Mass.) on Thursday, March 15 at 4 p.m. at Pomona-Pitzer.
Trinity trailed, 2-1, after doubles play, as senior tri-captain Vanja Babunski (Belgrade, Serbia) and sophomore Julia Brogan (Falmouth, Maine) collected the Bantam point at the No. 1 spot with an 8-2 win. Babunski and sophomore Jillian Winer (Bolton, Mass.) won singles matches in straight sets, while Brogan pulled out a three-setter to give the Bantams four points. Brogan lost the first set, 6-4, but took the next two in commanding fashion, 6-2, and, 6-3.
