New London, Conn. - The Trinity College women's tennis team took two of three doubles matches and won at No. 1 singles to take an early lead, but it was not enough as the Connecticut College Camels defeated the visiting Bantams, 5-4, on Sunday afternoon.  The No. 28- ranked Bantams fall to 4-9 and are 1-7 in the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) while the the Camels improve to 3-7 and 1-4 in league competition. The Bantams return to action on April 28th when they travel to New York to face the Ithaca College Bombers at 10 a.m.

Bantam senior captain Vanja Babunski (Belgrade, Serbia) notched a 7-6, 6-1 victory to lead Trinity at first singles. Sophomore Jillian Winer (Bolton, Mass.) chipped in with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at fourth singles after falling to the Camel duo of Aleksandra Drljaca and Stephanie Simon during doubles play with senior Emily Curtis (Milton, Mass).  

Connecticut College trailed by a 2-1 score after doubles play after Babunski and sophomore Julia Brogan (Falmouth, Maine) captured a 8-6 victory at the top spot on the ladder, and Ania Aliev (Needham, Mass) and Lily Everett (Atlanta, Ga.) won, 8-4, at the bottom position.  Trinity had a 4-3 advantage heading down the stretch with two singles matches left.  Sophomore Krista Jiranek (Owings Mills, Md.) won the first set by a 6-4 score, but Simon won set two by a 6-4 decision before earning a 6-2 win in the extra frame to win at No. 3 singles and create a 4-4 deadlock between the teams. Trinity sophomore, Julia Brogan fell at No. 2 singles for Connecticut College to clinch the victory.
